چکیده
Spurious eigensolutions in the boundary integral equation (BIE) or boundary element method (BEM) for doublyconnected domain problems, the eccentric and annular membranes, are studied analytically and numerically in this paper. For the mathematical analysis, we employ the null-field integral equation, the degenerate kernels and the Fourier series to prove the existence of spurious eigensolutions in the continuous system. Examples of eccentric case, annular membrane and general shape are solved by using the null-field equation approach and BEM, respectively. Base on the numerical experiment, computer-assisted proof for the existence of spurious eigenvalues in comparison with the trivial outer boundary data is given. The spurious eigenvalue is found to be the true eigenvalue of a circular membrane with the inner radius. The SVD structure for the four influence matrices is examined. Also, the trivial outer boundary densities are found in case of spurious eigenvalues and are shown in the bar chart.

Applications of the Generalized Singular-value Decomposition Method on the Eigenproblem Using the Incomplete Boundary Element Formulation
In this paper, four incomplete boundary element formulations, including the real-part singular boundary element, the real-part hypersingular boundary element, the imaginary-part boundary element and the plane-wave element methods, are used to solve the free vibration problem. Among these incomplete boundary element formulations, the real-part singular and the hypersingular boundary elements are...
متن کاملFree Vibration Analysis of Multiply Connected Plates Using the Method of Fundamental Solutions
In this paper, the method of fundamental solutions (MFS) for solving the eigenfrequencies of multiply connected plates is proposed. The coefficients of influence matrices are easily determined when the fundamental solution is known. True and spurious eigensolutions appear at the same time. It is found that the spurious eigensolution using the MFS depends on the location of the inner boundary wh...
متن کاملEigensolution Analysis of the Discontinuous Galerkin Method with Non-uniform Grids, Part I: One Space Dimension
We present a detailed study of spatially propagating waves in a discontinuous Galerkin scheme applied to a system of linear hyperbolic equations. We start with an eigensolution analysis of the semi-discrete system in one space dimension with uniform grids. It is found that, for any given order of the basis functions, there are at most two spatially propagating numerical wave modes for each phys...
